PJ Brescia

BabyGay, a 501(c)3 organization, is transforming support for the LGBTQ+ community by celebrating and empowering individuals through their coming out journey. Since our groundbreaking launch in 2023 at the LA LGBT Center, we've created a powerful movement that combines storytelling, community support, and advocacy. Our signature Welcome-Wagon Box, featuring heartfelt SupportCards handwritten by community members, provides essential resources and connection for those just beginning their journey. In our most significant achievement, BabyGay spearheaded the historic initiative to establish National Coming Out Day as an official Los Angeles city holiday, working in partnership with LA City Council and The Black Cat.

Our impact extends throughout Southern California, with vibrant presence at major Pride festivals including LA Pride, SD Pride, and Santa Monica Pride. Through strategic partnerships with organizations like the AT Center, we create meaningful community events that foster belonging and celebration. BabyGay stands as a testament to our core belief: while coming out can be challenging, it should never be lonely. By amplifying queer voices and building bridges between communities, we're creating a more inclusive and supportive world for everyone.

ORIGIN STORY | by BabyGay Founder, PJ Brescia

What began as a deeply personal journey of coming out as Gay at 27 and Non-Binary at 31 transformed into something much bigger than myself. After experiencing unexpected isolation and difficulty finding my place in the LGBTQIA+ community, I channeled my story into a creative outlet. Having never written before, I started crafting my story as a fictional comedy web series called "Baby Gay." I assembled an incredible group of filmmakers, and we shot the pilot episode in 2022. Through sharing my experience on social media during the pandemic, the overwhelming response showed me how many others were searching for guidance and community during their coming out journey.

This organic groundswell of support evolved into BabyGay, a non-profit organization that's reimagining how we support people coming out. From our packed launch event at the LA LGBT Center to our partnership with the historic Black Cat, which became our cherished homebase, we've grown to serve our community through Pride festivals, our Welcome-Wagon Box initiative, and advocacy work. In a historic moment this October, we helped make Los Angeles the largest major U.S. city to officially recognize National Coming Out Day as a city holiday.

FUTURE ROADMAP

Building on our landmark achievement of making National Coming Out Day officially recognized in Los Angeles, our vision extends across the country. While current legislation threatens LGBTQ+ rights in many states, we're committed to advocating for similar recognition in other major cities while amplifying queer visibility where it's needed most. Our roadmap includes expanding the BabyGay community through immersive events, educational initiatives, and partnerships with local organizations. We're developing our podcast and multimedia content to share diverse coming out stories, understanding that every narrative shared makes the path easier for others. Through our newly formed coalition of LA's LGBTQ+ event producers and community leaders, we're creating stronger connections and collaborative programming that break down traditional community silos. As we grow, we remain focused on our core mission: creating a world where coming out is met with celebration and support, and where every person has access to the resources and community they need during their journey.
